چکیده
As we all known, the transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder is the most common malignant tumour of urinary system (Riedl et al., 2001; Jichlinski et al., 2003), and its incidence is gradually increasing in the Republic of China. At present, its main therapeutic approach is early operation combined with postoperative chemotherapy of bladder irrigation. However, neither operation nor chemotherapy could solve the problems on high recurrence and progression (Gasión & Cruz, 2006). Related study reported that the recurrence rate of transitional cell carcinoma was 10-67% after transurethral resection (Sylvester et al., 2006). This is because the biological behaviors of bladder cancer are comp1icated and diversify, and the chemotherapy of malignancies always is based on physicians’ empirical judgement. Based on this, the most therapeutic approaches is limited to kill malignant tumour. Therefore, the resistance or sensitivity of chemical treatment is immense importance for prevention of tumor recurrence. As a detection tool, the tumor chemosensitivity assay (TCA) such as Human tumor clonogenic assay (HTCA), Methylthiazoletetrazolium (MTT), Fluorescent Cytoprint

Clinical application of the adenosine triphosphate-based response assay in intravesical chemotherapy for superficial bladder cancer.
OBJECTIVE To investigate correlations between adenosine triphosphate chemotherapy response assay (ATP-CRA) and clinical outcomes after ATP-CRA-based chemotherapy for drug selection in patients receiving intravesical chemotherapy to prevent recurrence of superficial bladder cancer after surgery. METHODS The chemosensitivities of 12 anticancer drugs were evaluated, including 5-Fu ADM, and EPI, ...
متن کاملIntravesical chemotherapy for maximum prophylaxis of new early phase superficial bladder carcinoma treated by transurethral resection: a combined analysis of trials by the Japanese Urological Cancer Research Group using smoothed hazard function.
BACKGROUND The effect of intravesical instillation of doxorubicin or epirubicin after transurethral resection (TUR) was estimated from the data of five randomized clinical trials in Japan. The authors provided the estimated hazard function plots with a smoothing technique, to evaluate the prophylactic effect of an intravesical therapy over time and to estimate the natural history of superficial...
متن کامل[Clinical results of prophylactic intravesical chemotherapy on superficial bladder cancer using the dye exclusion assay].
A chemosensitivity test was carried out on superficial bladder cancer using the dye exclusion assay for the purpose of screening chemosensitive drugs for prophylactic intravesical chemotherapy. Bladder cancer cells of each patients were incubated, in vitro, in the presence of adriamycin, (2"R)-4'-0-tetrahydropyranyladriamycin, mitomycin C, pepleomycin and 4'-epi-adriamycin (500 micrograms/ml) a...
متن کاملBacillus calmette-guerin versus chemotherapy for the intravesical treatment of patients with carcinoma in situ of the bladder: a meta-analysis of the published results of randomized clinical trials.
PURPOSE We determined the short-term and long-term efficacy of bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and chemotherapy in the treatment of patients with carcinoma in situ (CIS). MATERIALS AND METHODS A meta-analysis was performed on published results of randomized clinical trials comparing intravesical BCG to intravesical chemotherapy. RESULTS Nine randomized trials including 700 patients with CIS ...
متن کاملSensitivities of monolayers and spheroids of the human bladder cancer cell line MGH-U1 to the drugs used for intravesical chemotherapy.
The in vitro cytotoxicities of the four drugs most frequently used for intravesical chemotherapy (Adriamycin, epodyl, mitomycin C, Thiotepa) and epirubicin were compared using monolayers and multicellular tumor spheroids of the human bladder cancer cell line, MGH-U1. Adriamycin and epirubicin were most cytotoxic against monolayer cultures, whereas mitomycin C killed more cells in spheroids. Epo...
